Inspection Collaboration

Multiple users can now work on the same inspection simultaneously.

Overview

Inspection Collaboration allows multiple users to contribute to a single inspection in real time. Assignees work side-by-side on the same inspection: Changes made by one inspection collaborator are visible after saving to all others without requiring a manual refresh.

Real-time sync

All feature updates (ratings, answers, notes, flags and media) appear for every collaborator when a user hits save.

Any user can submit

Any user with access to the inspection can submit it, so there is no need to wait for the original assignee.

Simultaneous feature editing

When a user is editing a feature, there will be a clear indication that multiple users are editing the feature.

Deletion notifications

If a collaborator deletes the inspection, all assignees are notified immediately and redirected automatically.

How it works

Real-time feature updates

After any collaborator saves a change to a feature, the updated data is uploaded and automatically pushed to all other assignees. However, if you navigate offline and come back, your changes may not appear for other collaborators right away. A manual pull to refresh should resolve this (see manual refresh section below).

Manual refresh: You can manually refresh the inspection by pulling down on any of these screens:

  • Room/Area List screen

  • Item/Feature List screen

  • Item/Feature Details screen

Conflict resolution: If two collaborators edit the same feature at the same time, the most recent save will update (ratings, answers, notes). All media additions are preserved, so no media will be lost.

Simultaneous feature editing

If another user is editing a feature on the inspection, it will be clearly displayed as an icon next to that feature.

If another user is editing a feature at the same time, you will see a message after opening the feature indicating that a collaborator is currently editing it.

Note: If another user is editing a feature, the Submit button will be disabled for all other performers until editing is complete. See the Submitting an Inspection section below for details.

Submitting an Inspection

Anyone with access to the inspection can submit it, not only whoever was originally assigned. This is useful as it allows the user you are collaborating with the ability to move to the next work item while you submit the inspection.

The Submit button is active when all features are complete and no collaborator is editing any feature. The Submit button grays out if a user is mid-edit or if there are incomplete required features.

Tapping Submit while disabled shows a list of who is editing what feature. Once the user saves and closes out, the button re-enables automatically.

If another user submits while you are inside the inspection, you will be redirected to the Inspection List and shown a message confirming the inspection was submitted.

Deleting an Inspection

When a user deletes an inspection, all assignees lose access immediately without needing to refresh. Any uploads in progress are cancelled, local data on the device is cleared, and any pending reminder emails or texts will not be sent.

All assignees except the person who deleted it will also receive an email containing the inspection name, property address, and team name.

Reminder: If you go offline and come back, your changes may not appear for other collaborators right away. A manual pull to refresh should resolve this.
