Supported Insta360 Cameras
The following models are currently supported with RentCheck's 360 functionality:
- Insta360 X2 (ONE X2)
- Insta360 X3
- Insta360 X4 Air
- Insta360 X5
OPTION 1: INSTA360 X2 (ONE X2)
The Insta360 X2 is an older model that is still fully supported in RentCheck. It was a popular and capable camera when released and remains a solid option if you already own one. It captures 5.7K 360 video and up to 18MP 360 photos, with a 1630mAh battery rated for approximately 80 minutes of recording. It features a small circular OLED touchscreen, waterproofing to 10 meters, and a removable battery.
Note: The X2 shoots at a lower photo resolution than newer models (18MP vs. 72MP on the X3/X5) and has a smaller sensor. Image quality will be noticeably lower in mixed-light interior spaces. If you're purchasing new, we recommend considering a newer model.
Key specs:
- 18MP 360 photos
- 5.7K 360 video
- ~80 min battery life
- Waterproof to 10m (no case needed)
- Small OLED circular touchscreen
Best for: Inspectors on a tight budget. If purchasing new, we recommend the X3 or above for significantly better image quality.
OPTION 2: INSTA360 X3
The X3 is a solid mid-range option and a meaningful step up from the X2. It features a much larger 2.29" touchscreen for easier on-camera navigation, upgraded 1/2" sensors, and can capture up to 72MP 360 photos — a significant jump over the X2's 18MP. Battery life is similar to the X2 at around 81 minutes. It handles mixed-lighting interiors well with its Active HDR mode and is a reliable everyday inspection camera.
Key specs:
- 72MP 360 photos
- 5.7K 360 video
- ~81 min battery life
- 2.29" touchscreen
- Waterproof to 10m (no case needed)
- Active HDR for mixed-light environments
Best for: Budget-conscious teams wanting solid image quality; a good entry-level new purchase.
Typical price range: Mid-range (~$300–$350)
OPTION 3: INSTA360 X4 AIR
The X4 Air is Insta360's lightest 360 camera, weighing just 165 grams. Despite its compact size, it shoots 8K 360 video and 72MP photos, matching the X3 on stills resolution while adding significantly higher video capability. It includes user-replaceable lenses, AI-powered tone enhancement for better interior lighting performance, and a standard 1/4" tripod mount for easy setup.
Important setup note: The X4 Air starts in video mode by default and requires a physical on-camera setup walkthrough before you can switch to photo mode. Be sure to complete this initial walkthrough during setup. See our Insta360 Connection Guide for step-by-step instructions.
Key specs:
- 72MP 360 photos
- 8K 360 video
- ~2010mAh battery
- 165g (lightest supported model)
- User-replaceable lenses
- AI tone enhancement (AdaptiveTone)
- Starts in video mode — requires initial setup walkthrough
Best for: High-volume inspectors who want portability and modern image quality at an accessible price point.
Typical price range: Mid-range (~$400)
OPTION 4: INSTA360 X5
The X5 is the current flagship and the highest-quality option of the four supported models. It features significantly larger dual 1/1.28" sensors (144% larger than the X4 Air), delivering 72MP stills with improved HDR and notably better low-light performance — particularly useful for dim hallways, basements, and spaces with mixed or harsh lighting.
It also includes a 2.29" touchscreen, user-replaceable lenses, and AI-powered editing tools. Image quality is competitive with the Ricoh Theta Z1 at a comparable price point, making it one of the best all-around options available for property inspection work.
Key specs:
- 72MP 360 photos
- 8K 360 video
- Dual 1/1.28" sensors (larger than all other supported Insta360 models)
- 2.29" touchscreen
- User-replaceable lenses
- Best low-light performance of all supported Insta360 models
- PureVideo AI low-light mode
- Weather-resistant build
Best for: Inspectors who prioritize image quality, luxury properties, or low-light environments.
Typical price range: Premium (~$550)
TRIPOD RECOMMENDATION
We strongly recommend using a tripod for all 360 inspections. A tripod lets you position the camera in the center of the room at the optimal height, ensuring full room coverage in a single shot. For best results, use a taller tripod that positions the camera above counter height.
All four supported Insta360 models use a standard 1/4" tripod mount, so any standard tripod will work. Insta360 also sells first-party options compatible with all supported models:
- All-Purpose Tripod ($34.90) — Compatible with X5, X4, X3, and ONE X2. A solid, standard full-height tripod. Recommended for most inspectors.
- Mini 2-in-1 Tripod 2.0 ($34.99) — Compatible with X5, X4 Air, X4, X3, and ONE X2. Doubles as a selfie stick; more compact but shorter height.
Note: For the best room coverage, a full-height tripod is preferred over mini tripods for inspection use.
