✨ Why Do a Move-In Inspection?

Your Move-In Inspection is the first step toward protecting your security deposit and ensuring a smooth rental experience. It creates a timestamped record of your home’s condition at move-in, providing clarity about exactly how you found your rental.

A Move-In Inspection helps you:

  • Maximize your security deposit return

  • 🧾 Create a clear record for your property manager

  • 🏠 Start your lease feeling confident and protected

Best done before you unpack — when every wall, floor, and surface is visible.

🪄 When to Use It

Complete your Move-In Inspection as soon as you get your keys — ideally before furniture arrives.

If your property manager sends you an inspection link, open it in the RentCheck app to get started right away.

🛠️ How to Create a Move-In Inspection and Get Started

1️⃣ Open the RentCheck app and tap “+” to Add Inspection.

  • If your PM asked you to use RentCheck, wait for them to assign an inspection (or start the one you already see).

2️⃣ Select your rental, then choose Move-In Inspection.

  • Need setup help? Click here for a detailed guide to setting up your first rental and inspection.

3️⃣ Take your time: follow the prompts, capture clear, well-lit photos of each room/fixture, and add notes for scratches, stains, leaks, or items not working.

4️⃣ Submit and save: when finished, tap Submit Inspection. Your report will be timestamped and saved for reference.

💡 Pro Tip: Share your inspection directly with your property manager — just enter their email after your inspection has been uploaded.

📸 Why It’s Worth Taking Your Time

Your Move-In Inspection helps you and your property manager start on the same page. Clear documentation builds trust and transparency, showing exactly how the property looked at the start of your lease.

Take clear, well-lit photos of:

  • Walls, floors, doors, and windows

  • Appliances, plumbing, and fixtures

  • Any scratches, stains, or marks you notice

💡 Pro Tip: Do it early, take your time, and double-check rooms once you’ve finished - you’ll thank yourself later.

🧾 How RentCheck Makes It Easier

  • 🕒 Timestamped protection: every photo is securely dated and stored

  • 📂 Easy to share: send your inspection report directly to your property manager

  • 🔍 Confidence from day one: you’ll know exactly what condition your home was in when you arrived

💬 Take your time, be thorough, and start your lease with confidence knowing your home is fully documented
