The Property Configuration page in RentCheck allows you to add additional custom rooms or areas outside of RentCheck's standard list of options. These rooms and areas are available to be configured on your properties in RentCheck and can be included in RentCheck inspections. For example, if there is a room or area present at most of the properties in your portfolio and it is not included in RentCheck's standard list, then you may want to add it as custom room so it can be included and consistently documented on your RentCheck inspections.

How to Access the Property Configuration Page:

  1. Click the blue circle with your initials in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Account.

  3. Choose Property Configuration. (Please note that this feature is only available on the RentCheck Professional Plan.)

  4. Click Add under Interior or Exterior.

  5. Enter your custom room / area name - e.g. “Conservatory”.

  6. Click Save.

When to Use Property Configuration

Property configuration is useful in two main cases:

  1. Adding and Updating Property Details

  2. Creating Custom Templates

Let’s go over the details of both use cases.

1. Updating Property Details

If you want to add a custom room or area (e.g. “Conservatory”) to a property, create that room in the Property Configuration page first. Once the room is created on the Property Configuration page, you will be able to add the room to RentCheck when creating or updating properties. The room / area will show up in the list of options when creating a property. It can also be added to an existing property by following the steps below.

  1. Go to the Properties List page and select a property.

  2. Click the edit icon next to Additional Rooms in the sidebar.

  3. Your custom room (e.g., "Conservatory") will appear here to select.

  4. Select Save & Close.

2. Creating Custom Templates

When building a custom inspection template, it’s important to understand the difference between a section that is a room or area on a property versus a custom section added directly to the template.

  • Section that is a room or area: Will be shown on the inspection as long as that room or area is configured on the property (lighter purple in templates). The room or area can also be added if needed while performing an inspection.

  • Custom sections: Added directly to the template and will always be shown on the inspection regardless of the property configuration (darker purple).

For example, if "Conservatory" is added as a room through Property Configuration, it can be set up and configured on your custom inspection template.

This custom room will have a New tag on the template and will appear on all properties with that custom room or area configured.

Meanwhile, “General” is a section in the template that will always appear on inspections for all properties regardless of property configuration. (You can add more custom sections - like "Safety" or "Smoke Alarms" - from the 3-dot menu next to “Sections”. )

Reminder:

Sections without features won’t appear in inspections!

If a custom room isn’t visible during inspections, return to the template and make sure it has the necessary features set up. The same applies to custom sections created on a custom template.
