RentCheck is designed to make property inspections easy for residents to carry out and complete at home. We aim to make renting fair and transparent for all.

Why property inspections?

Property inspections help to keep your home as comfortable and efficient as possible by acting as a free home health checkup of the vital systems in your home.

Identifying any issues and needs as soon as possible is critical to keeping your home safe, comfortable, and functional.

The good news is that RentCheck eliminates the need to have a visit from an inspector as we are an entirely digital platform! This means that you can easily document the condition of your home at your own convenience.

RentCheck inspections generally take anywhere between 30-45 minutes to complete.

How to access RentCheck

RentCheck is available on most smartphones and tablets! Simply download the app from the App Store:

Setting up your account...

To get started, sign up on the RentCheck app using your email address. If your property manager or landlord sent you an invite code, make sure to use the same email address they used so that your inspection will automatically appear in the app.

If you use a different email, don’t worry. You can still connect to your inspection by entering the invite code provided in your inspection email.

If you are setting up RentCheck for your own personal use, you can create an account with any email address that is convenient for you. Once your account has been created, you will see two quick introduction screens. The first will explain what RentCheck is and what to expect, and the second will ask how you came across RentCheck. You can select either “My property manager or landlord is using RentCheck and instructed me to download the app” or “I found RentCheck on my own,” depending on your situation.

Completing your first inspection

Once your account is set up, you are ready to begin your first inspection.

If your property manager sent you an inspection invite, simply enter the invite code from the email. After entering the code, you will see a brief overview of what to expect during the inspection process. From there, the app will guide you through each step, asking you to take photos of different areas of your home:

You can take as many photos as you like. Once photos are added, you will also be asked a few quick questions about the condition of each area.

If you created your own inspection, you can begin by adding your rental unit. To do this, select the “Unit” tab in the app and click the plus icon. Once your unit is added, return to your dashboard, click the plus icon again, and start your inspection. The app will guide you through each area until you have completed the entire process.

After your inspection is complete, press the submit button. If you were completing an invited inspection, your signed inspection report and photos will be sent directly to your property manager for review. If you created your own inspection, it will be stored in your account for your own records.

Frequently asked questions

I completed an inspection but my property manager cannot see it...

If there are any discrepancies between the inspection that you have completed and the inspection your property manager has on file, please reach out to our support team! We will be able to get this sorted for you.

Can I save my inspection and come back to it later?

Absolutely! If you need to take a break from completing your inspection, simply close the RentCheck app and attend to any other tasks you have.

No need to worry about closing the app; everything will be just as you left it. Any photos you've taken during the inspection will be automatically saved, along with your progress. When you're ready to continue, just open the app again.

When you return, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off, without losing any of your previous work.

Remember to press the 'Submit' button once you've finished the inspection. After submitting, please allow some time for the inspection to upload. Once uploaded, you'll need to add your signature to finalize the process.

I need to request an extension for completing the inspection...

You will continue to have access to your inspection even after its due date. Typically, it is your property manager's decision to permit an extension. In these circumstances, we recommend that you reach out directly to your property manager and alert them of the situation. If you do not have your property manager's details feel free to reach out to us and we can pass you on their email.

My unit does not have the same areas as the inspection...

Sometimes your unit will not exactly match the inspection sent to you. Don't worry, this can be easily edited in the app! You can add additional rooms or areas by selecting the "Add room/area" menu option at the bottom of the inspection page.

Removing areas...

If any of the prompted areas are not applicable you can swipe left to mark a whole are as N/A

Alternatively, if any individual aspects of the inspection do not apply to your unit simply hit not applicable in the bottom right corner when prompted to take a picture of this area.

Adding areas...

If there are any rooms or areas missing from the inspection that you would like to include, please add them using this button.

You will then be asked what type of room you would like to add.

Thank you for using RentCheck! We really appreciate customer feedback, so please chat in to let us know how we're doing.
